Of the total skilled work visas granted by Britain for the year ending 2016, 57 percent of them were bagged by Indian citizens. The new figures revealed by the UK government on 23 February showed that this was despite the fact that immigration was the lowest to this country since 2014.
Of the 93,244 skilled work visas granted in 2016 by Britain until the year ending September 2016, 53,575 were given to Indians. Meanwhile, the Migration Statistics Quarterly Report indicated that Indians and Chinese accounted the largest number of non-visitor visas granted for the aforementioned period.
American nationals received the second highest number of work visas as 9,348 of their nationals received it, which works out to 10 percent of the total.
Most number of skilled work visa applications were sponsored by the information technology sectors (42%), while professional, technical and scientific activities followed with 19 percent and financial and insurance activities with 12 percent. India also stood first in the sponsored skilled work visa segment as well followed by the US and Australia in the second and third positions, respectively.
