IELTS scores range between 0 to 9. Also, you will get scores with .5, such as 7.5, 8.5, etc. You will get a band score for listening, writing, reading, and speaking sections (from 0 to 9) for each. The overall band score is calculated as the average of all the scores.

The IELTS band score is calculated by

  • The total band score was calculated by taking the mean of all 4 sections. For example, if you get Listening: 7, Reading: 7.5, writing: 8, and speaking: 7.5 scores, then the overall score will be 7.5 bands.
  • If your score ends with .25, the band score is rounded up to .5. That is, if your score is 7.25, it will be rounded off to 7.5.
  • If your score ends with .75, the band score is rounded to the whole band. If your score is 7.75, it will be rounded to 8.
  • If the score is below .25 or .75, then the score is rounded down. If your score is 7.21, then it will be rounded off to 7 bands.
