Types of Netherlands work visa

There are different types of work visas in Netherlands under short, temporary, and long term stay. The list of visas is given below:

Short term visa

Schengen category C visas sometimes referred to as short-stay work visas, are good for up to 90 days, or a maximum of 90 days within any 180-day period. This visa is valid for business travel, work-related travel, and temporary positions that don't last longer than three months.

Usually, you'll require an invitation to a work-related function or an offer of employment.

Temporary visa

In the Netherlands, temporary work permits are only available for contracted positions that last more than three months but no more than a year. List of temporary visas are:

GVVA or work visa: The single permit (GVVA) allows foreign employees to obtain work authorization and residence permit simultaneously. It is valid for a minimum of 1 year.

Seasonal workers visa: This visa allows immigrants to come into Netherlands for seasonal and the visa is valid up to 24 weeks.

The Working Holiday Programme (WHP) visa: It is accessible to individuals aged 18 to 30 to live and work in the nation from nine different countries. It has a one-year maximum validity period.

Entrepreneur visa: The Netherlands has a start-up visa for ambitious entrepreneurs from outside the EU, EEA, or Switzerland. The visa allows entrepreneurs to live and work in the Netherlands for one year to launch their innovative business.

Long term visa

The visa granted for skilled work in the nation which is valid for 1 – 5 years, and is renewable. Netherlands currently offers the following long-term work visas:

General work visa: The typical work permit for the majority of jobs in the Netherlands is the general work in paid employment visa. It is valid for up to 3 years and renewable, often for a maximum of 5 years.

Highly skilled migrant visa: The visa is intended for high-level positions with a minimum wage criterion and is valid for 5 years.

EU Blue Card: It a highly skilled worker's permit that is valid in all EU/EFTA nations. The visa is valid for 4 years and renewable.

Intra-corporate transfer (ICT): An intra-corporate transfer (ICT) in the Netherlands is a system that allows an employee to work temporarily in a different in another country. The visa is valid for 3 years, or 1 year for trainees.

Eligibility to work in Netherlands

  • Candidates must have an employment contract with an employer in Netherlands.
  • Should earn the minimum required salary.
  • Applicants under 30 must earn at least € 3,299, while those over 30 needs to earn at least € 4,500.
  • Applicants under Entrepreneur visa must have a business plan which will bring profit to Netherlands, and should have an agreement with a recognized facilitator.
  • Candidate should be a trainee or specialist in the management department and must be working in their respective companies for a minimum of 3 months before getting transfer (For Intra Company Transfer).
  • Applicants need to show employment contracts valid for a minimum of 12 months and need to have a higher educational certificate for 3 years (For EU Blue Card).
