Migrate to Canada with a work visa

International workers wanting to work in Canada temporarily must obtain a work permit. Candidates wishing to work in Canada permanently need to apply for a Canada PR visa. Aspirants must apply through the Temporary Foreign Workers Program (TFWP) and International Mobility Program for a temporary work visa. Canadian employers require Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) documents to invite foreign nationals through the TFWP. No LMIA is needed for IMP

What skill level is needed for FSTP?

Occupations that come under FSTP all require Skill Type B as per the 2016 version of the National Occupational Classification [NOC].

What are the conditions for applying to the Federal Skilled Trades Program?

A one-year full-time work offer from a Canadian company or a certificate of qualification from a provincial, territorial, or federal governing authority.

The Canadian Language Benchmark offers a language competency score in either French or English (CLB).

What is the difference between FSWP and FSTP?

Here, by FSWP is meant the Federal Skilled Worker Program. To be eligible for the FSWP, skilled work experience in either managerial, professional, or technical jobs and skilled trades will be required. As per the National Occupational Classification (NOC), such jobs would be at Skill Type 0, Skill Level A, or Skill Level B respectively. 

The Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), on the other hand, is for those looking to take up permanent residence in Canada based on their being qualified in a skilled trade.  

Which jobs are eligible for Express Entry FSTP?

Skilled trades eligible for applying for a Canada PR visa through the FSTP are, as per the NOC –  

  • Industrial, electrical and construction trades (NOC: Major Group 72), 

  • Maintenance and equipment operation trades (NOC: Major Group 73), 

  • Supervisors and technical jobs – in agriculture, natural resources, and related production (NOC: Major Group 82), 

  • Processing, manufacturing and utilities supervisors and central control operators (NOC: Major Group 92),

I want to immigrate to Quebec. Can I apply for Canada PR visa under the FSTP?

With greater autonomy over the selection of newcomers, Quebec has its own immigration programs.  Quebec is not a part of the federal Express Entry system or the Provincial Nominee Program.  If you plan on living in Quebec after you get your Canada PR visa, you must explore the Quebec immigration programs available.  

Can I settle anywhere in Canada if I get my Canada PR visa through FSTP?

Yes. When you make your Express Entry profile, you will be asked where in Canada do you plan on living after being granted your Canada PR visa. You don’t have to settle in that province or territory.  

However, if you get your Canada PR visa through Canadian PNP, you will be required to settle within the province/territory that nominated you. 

What is the difference between PNP and FSTP Canada?

The PNP is the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) which helps to migrate to Canada though 2 options:

  • Paper based process: Select a suitable province and required eligibility qualification must be satisfied. Then submit and Express of Interest (Express of Interest)
  • By Express Entry help: Applicant must create Express Entry profile and submit mandate documents in the Express Entry pool

The PNP allows provinces and territories to nominate immigrants who meet their specific economic needs. If the applicant is a skilled professional with experience in technology, finance, education, marketing or healthcare, PNP program is a perfect choice to get a PR in Canada.

What is Federal Skilled Trades Program Canada?

The Federal skilled Trades program is for skilled workers who want to become permanent residents based on being qualified in a skilled trade. As long as you meet the job requirements for that skilled trade as per the National Occupational Classification, and can meet the minimum eligibility criteria, you are in a great position to apply for the FSTP Program.

It’s open to people who have at least two years of full-time work experience in a skilled trade and meet other requirements, such as being able to speak English or French.

How much CRS score required for Canada PR?

The minimum CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System) score required for a Canadian Permanent Resident application is 467 points. This score is based on the candidate’s age, education, work experience, and other factors. While this minimum score may seem high, it is important to remember that the CRS is a highly competitive scoring system.

CRS score is used by Canada to assess and score your profile and Background information. These points are awarded based on different human capital factors. The CRS uses a point-based system to rank Express Entry candidates. A job offer is not required under the CRS, but candidates with a valid job offer or provincial nomination receive additional points under the CRS. It works on

Any applicant who submits a profile to the Express Entry pool of candidates is assigned a CRS score out of 1200 points.
