Update for 2026: Reasons for Indian Technicians Choosing Germany

Because the fee for US H-1B visa application has been hiked to $100,000 (as opposed to earlier $215-$5,000), Indian IT professionals have begun to consider alternatives. Germany has stepped in to fill the gap by promising to issue 200,000 professional visas for 2025, including 90,000 for Indians alone (as against 20,000 for Indians the year before).

Indian IT professionals are currently earning more than the national median salary in Germany. Germany also has two quota-free visas, one being its EU Blue Card visa and other skilled worker visa.

Knowledge of the German language is key in this process: nearly all of the skilled work visa options and pathways to permanent residence require German B1 minimum, and University route typically B2. German language is the logical starting point if you are considering a shift to Germany.

Why to learn German language?

German is the official language of Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein, and one of the official languages of Belgium and Luxembourg. It also holds regional or minority-language recognition in parts of Italy (South Tyrol) and Denmark (the South Jutland border region), and in Namibia, where it retains recognition as a national language following its earlier status as an official language until 1990. If you're planning to move to a German-speaking country or region, learning German significantly improves your prospects for work, study, and integration.

What is German Language Examination?

Aspirants who are planning to move to European countries can take any of the German language examinations. A German language proof increases their chances of getting a visa. Some of the famous German language tests include,

  • TestDaF: Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache
  • DSH: Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang
  • Goethe-Zertifikat
  • telc German A1, A2, B1, B2
  • Zertifikat Deutsch (ZD)

These are the various German tests that cover CEFR levels from A1 to C2. The test level is measured by the A1-C2, which is A1 is for beginners and C2 is for advanced speakers.

What is the Ideal German score?

The Goethe German A1 exam covers 4 sections: listening, reading, writing, and speaking. Passing the German exam requires more than 60% of the score. German score ranges from 1.0 to 5.0 GPA Grades, and in Indian Grades, it ranges from 0 to 100%.

Which German Level Do You Actually Need for Your Goal?

Your target CEFR level depends entirely on why you're moving to Germany:

  • Joining a spouse (family reunification): A1 is typically required before your visa is issued - though several nationalities and Blue Card spouses are exempt

  • Permanent settlement or citizenship: B1 is the standard requirement - and reaching B1 can also shorten your path to permanent residency (e.g., from 27 to 21 months for some Blue Card holders)

  • University admission: B2 is typically required for most non-STEM programs; some programs require C1

  • Skilled work: there's often no strict government-mandated language level for the visa itself, but B1-B2 is commonly expected by employers and speeds up your residency timeline

  • Regulated professions (medicine, law, teaching) or academic/research roles: C1 is generally required

Because requirements vary by visa type, profession, and even nationality, always confirm the exact level needed for your specific situation with the German embassy or your employer before choosing a course level.

plus

Yes — a digital PDF participation certificate is issued on completion of the course.

Is German hard to learn for English speakers?
plus

It's relatively approachable. English and German share the West Germanic family, around 40% of vocabulary overlaps, and German is largely phonetic, so pronunciation is easier.

Will this prepare me for the Goethe or TELC exams?
plus

The conversational course builds your A1–A2 foundation. For exam day, the Exam Prep – Tutor Guidance option focuses on Goethe/TELC dos and don'ts, common trap questions, and registration support.

Who can join, and do I need prior knowledge?
plus

Anyone aged 12 or above can join, and no prior German is needed — the course starts from absolute beginner (A1).

How is my progress checked throughout the course?
plus

Progress is tracked continuously, not just at the end. In-class assignments and quizzes follow each topic, the LMS records your scores and attempts, and certified tutors review your performance at multiple checkpoints to flag specific gaps. Sectional tests show where you stand against A1 and A2 benchmarks.

How do tutors evaluate my Speaking?
plus

Speaking is assessed LIVE in class. Because material is previewed on the LMS, class time is spent on conversation and drills — tutors listen as you speak and give immediate, personalized feedback on pronunciation, fluency, vocabulary range, and grammar, correcting you in the moment and revisiting recurring issues at later checkpoints.

How is my Listening assessed?
plus

Listening is checked through in-class audio exercises, LMS quizzes, and audio flashcards. Tutors review your comprehension accuracy, replay and clarify trouble spots, and track how your listening improves topic by topic across the A1 → A2 progression.

How are reading assignments evaluated?
plus

Reading is measured with topic quizzes and the 1,200+ LMS practice questions, plus periodic sectional checks. Tutors review your accuracy on comprehension tasks, pinpoint weak areas, and target them in the following sessions.

How do tutors evaluate my Writing?
plus

Daily in-class writing assignments are reviewed by your tutor, who gives individual feedback on grammar, sentence structure, spelling, and task completion. Recurring errors are noted and addressed again at later checkpoints so they don't carry into A2.

Are all four skills — Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing — covered and graded?
plus

Yes. The course teaches and evaluates all four skills. Every topic pairs practice with a check, and tutors provide checkpoint feedback per skill, so you always know exactly where you stand before moving up a level.

Is German Language Easy To Learn?
plus

German is easier to learn for English speakers because of the similarities between English and German. English and German belong to the West Germanic language family. Almost 40% of English and German language vocabulary is the same. The German language pronunciation is easier as it is a phonetic language.
