Yukon Provincial Nominee Program

About Yukon Territory

Yukon lies in the northwestern corner of Canada. Bounded to the east by Northwest Territories, the US state of Alaska lies west of Yukon. While the Canadian province of British Columbia is the neighbor to the south, Yukon extends northwards to the Beaufort Sea.

Yukon traces its name to the Gwich’in aboriginal word “Yu-kun-ah,” meaning “great river”, referring to the 3,190 kilometers long Yukon River. Despite a massive land mass of 483,450 kilometers, Yukon has a relatively small population of around 40,000 people.

“Whitehorse is the territorial capital of Yukon.”

Other prominent cities in Yukon include:

  • Faro
  • Carcross
  • Dawson
  • Carmacks
  • Watson Lake
  • Haines Junction
  • Pelly Crossing
  • Mt Lorne
  • Ibex Valley

Yukon Nominee Program (YNP) streams

Yukon welcomes newcomers through the Yukon Nominee Program (YNP). Candidates who intend to take up Canadian permanent residence and settle within Yukon can apply for YNP.

YNP Stream  Description
Yukon Express Entry (YEE) Aligned with the federal Express Entry system.
A full-time, permanent job offer from an eligible employer in Yukon.
Yukon employers – foreign workers cannot apply on their own – might apply to the Express Entry stream if the position that they are hiring for falls under NOC A, B, or 0 categories.
Skilled Worker For skilled foreign workers that wish to take up Canada PR through Yukon.
Employers in Yukon might use this YNP stream for hiring foreign workers for positions that come under NOC A, B, or 0 categories.
As this stream is not linked to the Express Entry system, an Express Entry profile will not be required.
Critical Impact Worker Employers in Yukon might use this YNP stream for hiring foreign workers for positions that come under NOC C or D categories.
Business Nominee For business owners and entrepreneurs that intend to run their own business in Yukon.
A 2-step application process that begins with the submission of an application form.
Minimum 65 points.
Successful candidates are then placed in a pool from which selections are made. Those selected can then proceed to submit the supporting documentation.
An in-person interview in Yukon is the final step of the process.
Yukon Community Pilot
(3 year program – January 2020 until June 2023 )

The Yukon Pilot aims at attracting as well as retaining immigrants in the territorial communities through testing innovative approaches to Yukon immigration.
Under the Yukon Community Pilot, the entry of immigrants into Yukon is to be facilitated through the issuance of open work permits as per the International Mobility Program (IMP).

How do I know which YNP stream I should apply to?
plus

Those with a valid profile in the Express Entry system of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada [IRCC] are eligible for the Yukon Express Entry stream.
