The application process 

  • Get an acceptance letter from a Swedish university.
  • Meet the following criteria before applying for a Sweden student visa:
    • The study program you have used to join a Swedish university must be full-time.
    • You must possess confirmation in a written form showing that your admission has been confirmed.
    • You should pay the first installment of the tuition fee (if required) before applying for a student visa to Sweden.
    • You must procure comprehensive health insurance for a study course under a year.
    • It would be best to have a valid passport with at least six months of validity remaining.
  • You can apply for a Swedish student visa at the Swedish migration agency's website or a local Swedish embassy or consulate in your home country. Submit all required documents with the application. In addition, go to the local Swedish embassy or consulate to get your photograph and fingerprints taken.
  • The decision on your application will be sent via email. After making an appointment at the relevant office, you can collect your documents and decide on your application. A copy of the decision document will also be sent to the Swedish university.
  • After this, you should immediately apply for a Swedish student visa/residence permit. The process has an average waiting time of two to three months.
