Canada New Brunswick province needs 3000 immigrant workers yearly and this will also only ensure that the workforce is just stabilized and does not shrink. It will however not be adequate to ensure the growth of the workforce in the province said Richard Saillant the Economist.
The Economist further elaborated on the labor market trends and scenario for the New Brunswick province. He said that right now around 1000 Immigrant Workers are arriving at the province. This is ensuring that the workforce of the province does not decrease by 4000 people annually, as quoted by the CIC News.
One of the chief factors for declining workforce in the province is that more numbers of residents are retiring from the workforce. The numbers of people looking for work is lesser on the other hand. Thus it requires minimum 3000 Immigrant Workers annually to stabilize the workforce.
1/3rd of the population of New Brunswick was born during the years of the baby boom during 1946 and 1965. Thus many of this generation have now reached the retirement age. New Brunswick now has numbers of people above the age of 65 years than compared with those below the age of 15 years.
The decline in the workforce is having a huge effect on the economic growth of the province. It has now been diminished to just 0.5% yearly in the latest years. This, in turn, is affecting the tax base growth of New Brunswick at a time when social service and health care needs of its aged population are on the rise.
Richard Saillant said that the New Brunswick province needs a quantum leap when it comes to attracting fresh immigrant workers to the province.
