Qatar Qatar’s Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs will unveil a new electronic visa system which will replace the Ministry’s permanent committee for hiring foreign workers. A senior official of the Ministry was quoted by the Peninsula Qatar as saying that the new system’s objective was to make the process simpler for Qatar’s businesses and employers to hire international workers. Fawaz Al Rayes, Director of Recruitment Department at the Ministry, said in the new system, the employers would be provided with all the requirements and all the important details necessary such as professions, careers, nationalities, the number of employees needed and others. Al Rayes added that the ministry was eliciting feedback from employers and the business houses before officially unveiling the new system soon after addressing all the comments made by the concerned companies and users. This was stated by Al Rayes at a seminar held at the Qatar Chamber on 13 August to launch the new system to companies and business sectors’ representatives. In attendance were Qatari representatives of several companies, the Ministry of Labour officials, including Fahad Jaber Al Kawari, Director of Labour Relation Department, Mohammed Ali Al Meer, Director of Labour Inspection Department and Saleh Hamad Al Sharqi, Acting Director General of Qatar Chamber. Al Rayes added that the completely electronic system would allow employers to file a request to source employees via a platform. Following it, the Human Resources department should fill an electronic form with the company details and the number of employees it requires, their nationalities and other information. Al Meer said that the business sector welcomed the new system because of its many advantages, which include saving time and resources of employers as well as meeting the requirements of manpower for the local market. Upon approval of the application, the visa issued for labour recruitment from abroad would be valid for one year. It also allows employers to fill up more applications as the system would make the process much easier and give employers the freedom to select the nations from where they want to hire and the numbers they can hire.
