Australia reduce the duration of stay of foreign workers on 457 visas The Australian government made an announcement that it will reduce the duration of stay after the term of employment foreign workers on 457 visas comes to an end. Henceforth, 457 visa holders will not have lesser time to search for other jobs in Oz.  This is said to be a measure taken to make the job market friendlier for the natives of Australia. The government stated that foreign workers in Australia will have to reduce their stay to 60 days in the country after the termination of their employment. Earlier, overseas workers with 457 visas could remain for 90 days after they completed their assignment. Peter Dutton, Australia’s immigration minister, had announced this in November last year. He said that this amendment would reduce the ability of a 457 visa holder to hunt for another job once that individual completes his/her employment. Dutton was quoted by workpermit.com as saying that the aim of this amendment was to decrease competition from foreign workers for citizens of Australia who are scouting for work. Though their government appreciated the contribution made by skilled foreigners working on 457 visas when a qualified Australian worker is willing to work, it was the government’s duty to provide the latter with an opportunity, he added.
