  • Canada welcomed 275,000 new permanent residents from January 1 to July 31, 2022
  • Canada employed 1,250 employees to reduce the backlog
  • Canada issued 349,000 work permits from January 1 to July 31, 2022

Canada welcomed 275,000 permanent residents in 2022

IRCC welcomed 275,000 permanent residents between January and July 2022. The target for the current year is 431,000. Canada has also processed 349,000 work permits in the same period. This work permit also includes 220,000 open work permits which allow the immigrants to work in Canada in any province or territory. The number of study permits issued in this period is 360,000 to invite students to study in Canada.

Canada to reduce backlog soon

Sean Fraser stated that IRCC will reduce the backlog of the applications and improve client experience. It will also take care of labour shortage in the country. IRCC has employed 1,250 to reduce the backlog and make the immigration system more efficient.

Backlog data will be published monthly

IRCC stated that delays in processing of the applications occurred due to the crises and updating of the aging technology. IRCC reported that it has plans to process 780 percent of the new applications. The backlog of IRCC tripled during the pandemic and it came to 2.7 million in mid-July and has been reduced to 2.4 million till July 31, 2022. Applications that are not processed within its service standards come under backlog.
