Experts have said that Tech firms in Canada could benefit if Trump ends H-1B Visa holder spouses work permits. The dependent family members of US H-1B Visa holders are offered the H-4 Visas. Spouses of H-1B visa holders were offered work permits by the then Obama administration in 2015.
Ackah Business Immigration Law Founder and Managing Attorney Evelyn Ackah said that the ability to bring along spouse to the overseas destination is a huge benefit. Relocating to an overseas destination is a tough decision. The authorization for the spouse to Work Overseas is an aspect that eases this tough journey, added Ackah.
Canada offers an open work permit to spouses of skilled overseas workers. If the US goes ahead with eliminating H-1B Visa holder spouses work permits, it will adversely impact the visa holders. They may as well decide to exit the US, added Ackah. She said that tech firms in Canada could benefit from this decision of the US. H-1B holders in the US could feel insecure regarding their status, elaborated the lawyer.
Majority of the H-1B Visa beneficiaries are from India and other South Asian nations. These are highly advanced in IT and Science. They may decide to not arrive at the US after this, said the Attorney. She also predicted that firms in Silicon Valley that have offices in Canada could also relocate their workers to Canada. This is even as ambiguity regarding their job security grows, as quoted by the Global News CA.
PC Arghavan Gerami the Managing Director and Founder of Gerami Law said that in the wake of policy changes by the US, immigrants might choose Canada as the destination. This will be in favor of the economy of Canada, added Gerami.
