Invest Ottawa, the Canadian capital’s economic development agency has launched a new scheme with an aim of attracting international technology workers to Ottawa.
Known as ‘Work in Ottawa’, the campaign launched in the third week of April hard sells Canadian capital by highlighting its quality of life, its thrust on research and development and its cheaper cost of living when compared to the most US and Canadian cities.
Michael Tremblay, Invest Ottawa CEO, was quoted by CBC Radio as saying that Ottawa has suffered from being misrepresented as an exclusive government city. He said that apart from an attractive cost of living, their city ranked number two in Canada for salaries and its marketplace diversity.
It is said to have many unfilled positions in technology companies such as Apple, Adobe, Kinaxis, QNX and Syntronic and they were only going to increase. Shopify, one of the top companies headquartered in Ottawa, has a lot of vacancies for translators, legal counsellors, software engineers and so on. It is planning to hire over 2,000 people over the next two years.
To pitch Ottawa further, Invest Ottawa is running newsletters, digital ads and other content in the US states of California, Florida, Massachusetts, New York and Texas and to spread the word about the opportunities the city offers.
