The results of the Diversity Visa Lottery for the fiscal year 2018 have been announced by Williamsburg’s Kentucky Consular Center. The Diversity Visa Lottery was held as per the provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Act – Section 203 (c). This visa lottery offers US Resident Visa to 50,000 immigrants every year. These visas are offered to immigrants from nations with low % of immigration to the US.
Around 115, 968 applicants have been registered for the Diversity Visa Lottery. They have now been notified regarding the results and can accordingly file an application for US Resident Visa. It is likely that few of the 50,000 immigrant applicants registered first may not go ahead with their case and file for the visa. Thus it will be ensured that the intake of 50,000 for the fiscal year 2018 will be filled through this Diversity Visa Lottery, as quoted by the Travel State Gov.
The applicants registered for this year’s Diversity Visas were chosen randomly from 14, 992, 258 eligible entries. These entries were accepted for 34 days. The Diversity Visa Lottery allocates the visas for six geographical regions. Maximum of 7% visas are offered to individuals of a particular nation.
The principal applicants of Diversity Visa must give proof of having received minimum high school level education or its equivalent. Alternatively, they can give proof of having work experience for 2 years. The work experience must require a minimum of 2 years of training.
Applicants who have registered themselves and are already residing in the US must seek alteration of their status with the USCIS. They will receive information from the USCIS regarding procedures and requirements. Once the intake of 50,000 immigrants is reached the Diversity Visa program will close for 2018.
