US Tech groups have supported Work Visas for H-1B Spouses and urged the US administration to continue with the H-4 Work visa for spouses. They have said that this work visa program for H-1B Spouses is beneficial to the US economy.
US Tech groups led by the Industry Council for Information Technology have written a letter to the US Citizenship and Immigration Services. The letter has been signed by ten other advocacy and business groups. They have expressed their support for the H-4 Work visa for spouses. It has been sent to Lee Francis Cissna the Director of USCIS. It has also been sent to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen.
Majority of the H-4 visa holders are spouses of Indian professionals with H-1B visas. These are authorized to work in the US, as quoted by Little India. Industry Council for Information Technology has members such as Microsoft Corp, Google, Facebook Inc, Amazon Inc, and Apple Inc.
These have urged the US administration to continue with the US Work Visas for H-1B Spouses. They have said that eliminating the H-4 visas will damage the competitiveness of the US economy. It will also create hindrances for the efforts to hire and retain the highly qualified workers, added the Tech groups.
The letter addressed to USCIS states that work authorization through H-4 visas is available for a restricted number of H-1B spouses. Applicants for H-4 visas are already legal residents in the US who are on the pathway to PR. They are keen for a job to support their families. This will also help them to contribute to the community through tax payment. It will also help in the growth of the US economy through utilization of their skills, adds the letter.
