Trump demands to eliminate chain immigration, visa lottery for DACA bill from US Lawmakers

US President Donald Trump has demanded to eliminate chain immigration, visa lottery in return for DACA bill from US Lawmakers as a part of complete immigration reforms. A legislative solution for the DACA immigrants in the US is something which the Congress has been unable to achieve for decades.

Trump gave indications that he is ready to endorse a proposal for millions of DACA immigrants offering US Citizenship to them finally. He told the lawmakers of the Republican Party that he is willing to take the backlash from the hardliners for this.

A meeting was held between the lawmakers of the Democratic and Republican Party. In the meeting, Trump said that the compromise formula for DACA legislative solution must include his comprehensive immigration reforms. These would be to eliminate chain immigration and visa lottery. He said that the visa lottery facilitates the arrival of unwanted Overseas Nationals to the US.

The US President went further than just endorsement of DACA legislative solution. He advised that the US lawmakers must address a much bigger issue – 11 million illegal immigrants residing in the US.

If the issue of illegal immigrants is addressed by the lawmakers, Trump said that he is ready to face the backlash of the hardliners in his party. This will be a step closer to wide-ranging reforms for US immigration, he added, as quoted by the Guardian.

After the closed-door session of the meeting, the media was allowed to record the proceedings of the meeting. Trump here once again came back to the issue indicating to endorse a bi-phase approach. This would include a legislative fix for DACA and border security. It would be succeeded by the comprehensive reforms for immigration.

US lawmakers and White House agreed to narrow discussions on 4 major issues. This would be border security, chain immigration, diversity visa lottery and DACA bill.
