Highlights: Canada to send out Parents and Grandparents Program invitations starting from May 21, 2024 

• Invitations for the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) will be sent out from May 21.
• Potential sponsors from 2020 are to be invited by IRCC to sponsor their parents and grandparents.
• 35,700 invitations are to be sent to potential applicants over two weeks.

Canada PGP 2024 intake

IRCC will send 35,700 invitations to eligible sponsors starting May 21, 2024. The department is willing to accept 20,500 applications submitted in 2020.

 

Sponsors are to be chosen randomly via a lottery system. Applicants must submit their complete application forms by 11:59 PM on August 02, 2024. Canadian citizens can sponsor their parents and grandparents for Canada PR via this program.

PGP Sponsorship Undertaking

Canadian citizens sponsoring their parents or grandparents to Canada are required to sign an undertaking. The PGP sponsorship undertaking commits to:

• Providing complete financial support to your parents and grandparents for the undertaking period. (The undertaking period for sponsoring parents and grandparents is 20 years, and for Quebec residents, it is 10 years)
• Ensuring that the sponsored people will not need any financial assistance from the Canadian Government. (If sponsored people receive governmental assistance during the undertaking period, then the sponsor has to repay the amount to the Government)
• Bearing with the expenses of basic requirements of sponsors which includes food, shelter, clothing and medical needs that are not covered under Canadian public health services.

Note: The undertaking period cannot be canceled or shortened after the sponsored members receive Canada PR.

 

Your sponsorship should not be affected during the undertaking period even if:

• Your sponsored family has received citizenship in Canada
• Your relationship with the sponsored people undergoes a change
• You or you’re your sponsored family member migrate to some other province or country
• You face financial crises such as unemployment or debt
• You request IRCC to withdraw your sponsorship application after your sponsored family received Canada PR.

Note: Sponsorship application can only be withdrawn before your sponsored family members receive permanent resident status.
