Australia The changes to Australia’s citizenship will send the wrong message to immigrant cultures and have a devastating effect to the nation’s multi-ethnicity. These views were expressed by Muslim academics in Australia. According to them the changes to citizenship will send a message that immigrant cultures are not well-suited to Australian values. Association of Islamic and Muslim Studies in Australia said that immigrants have contributed culturally and economically to Australia. In spite of this, they are blamed when things go haywire due to diverse factors. Tamara Stewart-Jones the Chief Executive Officer of Multicultural Youth South Australia also cautioned the Australian Senate of citizenship changes. She said that youth from immigrant cultures can feel abandoned by the society in Australia. This was especially applicable for youth from the Middle East, added Tamara Stewart-Jones, as quoted by The Australian. The Chief Executive Officer of Multicultural Youth South Australia also gave references of labeling youth from immigrant cultures. Being called ‘queue breakers’ and ‘terrorists’ imply that they are unsuitable for the society in Australia. Naturally, it has a crucial impact on the ability of youth from immigrant cultures to assimilate and settle in Australia, added Ms. Tamara. The Chinese community in Australia has also warned against the increasing populism in Australia. It has said that this trend endangers the advantages of multi-ethnicity in Australia incurred in past 40 years. Association of Islamic and Muslim Studies in Australia also referred to the triumphant declarations made by Turnbull last year.  The Australian Prime Minister had said that the nation is most harmonious and successful multicultural country globally. These words were not received well by the public who expressed astonishment and cynicism at them. Turnbull also tried to link border security with multiculturalism.
