India and Australia signed an agreement at the 2nd India-Australia Virtual Summit held on March 21, 2022. The agreement is a comprehensive mechanism for the reciprocal recognition of qualifications. It will help streamline the mobility of professionals and students in India and Australia.

Australia and India to mutually recognize qualifications

The agreement was signed during the bilateral meeting held in New Delhi on March 2, 2023, between Dharmendra Pradhan and Jason Clare, the Education Ministers of India and Australia, respectively. They agreed to set up a joint task force for the mutual recognition of skills and qualifications.

A task force was established comprising senior officials of skill ministry regulators and education of India and Australia. It has set an extensive mechanism covering the education and skill qualifications of both countries to facilitate the mobility of young individuals for employment and education.

The countries agreed to reinforce their links in the sector of education and skill development.

Other Agreements between India and Australia

Australia has committed to invest 1.82 million USD. The amount will be used for study programs and training. It will also boost the collaboration between India and Australia in the agriculture sector.

There were various other agreements signed between the two countries. The first one is the mutual recognition of academic qualifications. Multiple agreements were signed between Indian and Australian universities to fund more Ph.D. research scholars.

The Indian government has announced multiple initiatives to facilitate partnerships with foreign institutions, especially in the field of higher education, by enabling joint or dual degree programs.
