There are several types of work permits that are considered the leading work permits for non-EU citizens, such as restricted work permits, standard work permits, and unrestricted work permits. Non-EU must enter the country with proper work to reside and work there.

Different types of work permits in Austria

Austria is a part of the Schengen Area and hires third-country nationals. Several types of work visas are available for non-EU residents. In addition, Austria has a point-based system that ranks immigrants based on their merits. There are different types of Austrian work permits, such as:

 

Red-White-Red Card

This visa is for highly foreign employees who can work and reside in the country with this one visa. This card is valid for two year and allows a certain group of people:

 

  • Shortage occupation skilled workers
  • Key workers
  • Qualified skilled workers(highly qualified)
  • Austrian university and college graduates
  • Start-up founders
  • Key workers who are self-employed

 

EU Blue Card

This is similar to the Red-White-Red Card, which gives applicants equal work rights as Austrian citizens. This visa is also issued for highly skilled workers, although there is no point-based system for this card.

 

Job Seeker Visa

The Job Seeker Visa is for highly skilled workers who are looking for employment in the country. Through this visa a skilled worker can enter the country and look for a job.

 

Seasonal workers

This Austria seasonal work visa is a temporary permit for only fixed-term employment in agriculture and tourism. A skilled worker must apply for the quota that is for seasonal workers.

 

Restricted Work Permit

The Restricted Work Permit allows an Indian national to start work in Austria, explaining their ability to find and maintain a job.

 

Work Permit

This work permit is only available to holders of restricted permits for one year, which allows them to apply for standard work permit with validity of two-year period.

 

Unrestricted Work Permit

The Unrestricted Work Permit is issued for applicants who have held a standard work permit for two years. This allows the applicant to gain a five-year unrestricted work permit.

 

Requirements of Employer to apply for Austrian Work permit

The Austrian work visas or permit are categorized into several categories using a point-based system. When selecting the appropriate visa category, employers must ensure their employees have scored the required points to be eligible for their Austria work permit. To hire non-nationals, an employer has to sponsor the employees for the work permit. The Austria work permit requirements for employers are:

 

  • The employer has to apply for Public Employment Service Austria (AMS)
  • Mention the details of the employment by submitting the declaration

  • Valid passport
  • Birth certificate
  • Work experience
  • Proof of residency in the country
  • Health insurance
  • Proof of completed training/ vocational education
  • Annual salary equivalent to senior manager

  • Certificate of educational qualification from Australia
  • Proof of sufficient funds
