Australia offers many visa options to help skilled immigrants to come and settle down in the country. While many of these visa options require the individual to apply on his own or independently, there are some visa options that are nominated by the state. One of these is the Subclass 190 visa which is a state nominated visa.
With a state nominated visa, you can get a skilled migration visa to migrate to Australia. For receiving a state nomination, your occupation must be featured in the State Nominated Occupation list and meet all the eligibility requirements of state and federal governments.
A state nomination gives you the following benefits:
In keeping with the requirements of the Skilled nominated visa, the state of Tasmania recently released its skilled occupation list for the program year 2020-21 for subclass 190 and 491.
To be eligible for the Subclass 190 visa, candidates must have work experience of at least 6 months in Tasmania prior to their applying for a state nomination. The applicants are also eligible for the subclass 491 visa.
Other eligibility requirements include:
To apply for these visas, the applicant has to file an EOI first and after receiving an invitation to apply, he must apply for a nomination while meeting the additional English language, experience, and employability requirement specified for the occupation.
Features of the Tasmanian Skilled Occupations List (TSOL)
The TSOL identifies skills that are currently in demand in Tasmania and is derived from the list of eligible occupations for the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) and Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491) specified by the Australian Government.
The occupations in the list are those identified by the Tasmanian Government as areas that have a skills shortage in the State.
Purpose of the TSOL
The TSOL is used in the evaluation of applications falling under 'Category 3A - Overseas Applicant' for the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491), and Category 2 - Working in Tasmania for the Skilled Nominated visa.
Working in Tasmania - Category 2
For subclass 190 applicants seeking nomination in the Working in Tasmania group, they must have a skills assessment for an occupation on the TSOL, work in a related field and comply with the additional English language criteria stated for their occupation.
Overseas Applicants – Category 3A
For overseas applicants in category 3A, and without an invitation from Migration Tasmania, an application for nomination cannot be made. Please note that the list is merely an indication of skill shortages, and if your occupation is listed below, this does not mean that you will be invited to apply for nomination , or that you are guaranteed employment in Tasmania. Applicants must compete in the local job market to secure employment.
Migration Tasmania can contact individuals who have lodged an EOI with an occupation not mentioned in the TSOL when sudden critical labor market needs are established. If invited to apply, applicants must comply with the additional criteria for English language, experience and employability laid down for the occupation.
Overseas Applicants – Category 3B
Category 3B foreign applicants who have a work offer in a TSOL-related field must have a Skills assessment in that area and should comply with the additional criteria for English and registration/experience specified on the TSOL for that occupation.
High Demand Occupations – Exemption from employability requirement
In the TSOL list, some occupations are designated as "High Demand". Applicants for the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491) nomination under the 'Overseas Applicant Category (3A)' do not need to provide employability research and proof if they fulfil the experience, English criteria and any other things listed for that occupation.
