The PTE writing task consists of a write from a dictation task where the test taker will hear a sentence and is expected to type the sentence into the response box at the bottom of the test screen. The audio will start playing automatically, and the test taker is able to listen to the audio-only once. The test-taker can use the erasable notebook to take notes.
The main challenge is being able to memorize and type long sentences in the Write from the Dictation task. Test-takers may, at times, forget words. Also, test-takers need to be able to spell every word correctly. It will also come in handy to be able to understand how words are pronounced in various accents. Also, the aspirant must be able to keep the focus until the very end. Many people tend to get overwhelmed with so many demands this task requires to be met.
Here are some aspects you should remember to complete this task successfully.
Make it a habit to take down notes
For most of the words use your own abbreviations. Note the first 3 letters of each word that you hear. If there are words that you do not know the spellings of, then use phonetics to write them down.
The idea is to write enough to get your memory to kick-start to type the correct sentence. Make sure to write as explicitly as possible. Get your pen and noe board even before recording starts.
Try to keep pace with it, when the audio starts playing. Taking notes allows you to perform a spell and feel check before the words are typed.
Improve your reading skills
Enhance your English reading. Read the books, the news, and any literature that you can get on with. You can start writing about your daily experiences to enhance your spelling. You will learn about more words in this way and train your mind to write the right spellings.
Practice listening
Listen to podcasts in order to improve your listening skills. The best tactic for improving listening is not to watch videos, since your understanding also depends on visual signals. By graduating to specialized podcasts, challenge yourself when you reach a standard level. Listen to podcasts about your favorite topics.
Do not skip the questions
Even if you can't remember every part, don't miss out on the questions. As much as you can, type down the words accurately. Please note that the scoring is not negative. So even if you're writing a portion of the sentence, you'll get a couple of marks.
Check your grammar, spelling and punctuation in the sentences
Make sure every sentence in your writing starts with a capital letter and ends with a full stop. Do not combine singular and plural nouns or introduce an article where none exists.
Place the words in the right order
Don't lose our marks in the Write from Dictation task by not following the correct sequence of words.
Practice with mock tests
Take a sufficient number of mock tests to practice hearing from audio, and then write it correctly. Get sufficient PTE preparation.
