The Duolingo English Test (DET) is an English language proficiency test that universities overseas recognize. Many universities in the United States have begun accepting the Duolingo test scores to register overseas students. This test gained popularity when institutes were not able to organize IELTS and TOEFL tests during the Covid-19 pandemic.

This phase will see the Duolingo platform aid you in setting up your laptop/PC for the test. The platform will give you instructions on how the app should be installed after you have bought the exam. Once you are done with the test, you will get a score ranging from 10 to 160.
Writing and Speaking Test
This is the examination's final part, where speaking and writing skills in Duolingo will be tested. This section's duration is 10 minutes.
The writing test will have questions of the following types -
Write about a particular subject in 3 to 5 minutes.
Narrate about a person or incident which has left a lasting impression on you.
These questions should be answered within the time frame that Duolingo provides.
The following test part of speaking or interview will need you to answer a specific question elaborately.
Here, too, to complete the test within a scheduled timeframe.
The score in DET ranges from 10 to 160, and scores are given in basic, intermediate, upper-intermediate, and advanced levels. They are as per the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).

The minimum Duolingo score at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology is 120
The minimum Duolingo score at the University of California Berkeley is 115
The minimum Duolingo score at the University of Pennsylvania is 115
Other American universities, such as Harcum College, University of the Pacific, Lasell University, and St. Thomas University (Florida), among others, accept DET scores of a minimum of 100.
