EU to create easier Schengen Visa via digitalization

The processing of immigration applications was done offline by the European Union Commission. Now the commission has proposed to convert the offline process into an online one due to the COVID pandemic. There are many other reasons for digitalizing the visa process. These reasons are:

  • Applicants’ security will be enhanced and the cost of application processing will be reduced.
  • Digitalizing the process will reduce the risk of fraud and fabrication in visa processing.
  • Applicants pay the visa fee online on a single EU platform.
  • Applications will not be sent to the consulates for submission of requirements physically.

Each EU member state will get a period of five years to convert the visa process from manual to digital.
