Sweden is facing a labour shortage in many sectors; according to the European Labour Authority, a few sectors that are facing a shortage of skilled workers are IT, healthcare, engineering, education, construction, skilled trades, manufacturing and machine operations. The European Labour Authority also noted that private and public employers in Sweden faced many difficulties while hiring people last year.

41% of private employers said that they had undergone skilled workers shortage when recruiting in the past 6 months. 60% of public employers experienced a recruitment shortage in the same period. Few other occupations with other skill levels that also have skilled worker shortages are construction and skilled trades, agriculture, transportation, manufacturing and machine operations, and healthcare.

Who can apply for a Sweden Work Permit?

Individuals from abroad who belong to any specified occupation will have a higher chance of securing a Swedish work visa. Also, occupations in high demand are those with a substantial number of workers in the respective fields, including real estate agents, journalists, photographers, bankers, graphic designers, shop assistants, telephone operators, receptionists and caretakers.

 

Citizens of the European Economic Area, European Union and Switzerland are not required to have a work permit to work in Sweden. Individuals from other countries require a work visa to work in Sweden.
