Starting from November 17, 2023 with the execution of new regulations, foreign nationals will be able to work for shorter periods of time in Denmark without requiring a work permit or residence.
The is essential for candidates to be employed in a company that is established overseas and is affiliated to a company founded in Denmark, and the business needs to employ at least 50 people.
The new regulations will allow employees to work for companies in Denmark for two different work periods in a 180-day period. A maximum of 15 working days can be included in each working period and between each working period the candidate has to stay outside Denmark for at least 14 days.
In addition, the candidate must be able to enter and stay in Denmark lawfully, either as a citizen of a visa free nation or if issued with a visa for utilizing the new rule on exemption.
The new rule only applies to work in certain industries such as management work or work requiring high or intermediate level knowledge. The list of industries includes Horticulture, construction, cleaning, forestry, catering and lodging, and transportation of goods by road.
There are some rules of exemption, and if the conditions of the exemption are met, candidate may be able to work in Denmark without needing a work permit.
Furthermore, artists, performers, musicians, and related staff can be exempted from needing a work permit. Guest teachers won’t require a work permit if plan to teach for up to 5 days, within a period of 180 days, at an educational institution run by the Ministry of Higher Education and Science or the Ministry of Culture.
