Indian visitors at the Eiffel Tower

The Eiffel Tower, a well-known tourist destination, is the first to provide UPI payments in France, and there are plans to expand it to other merchants in the tourism and retail industries. Indian visitors can now pay by scanning a QR code on the Eiffel Tower website.

 

People can now use UPI to purchase tickets to the Eiffel Tower on their next visit to Paris. India has precisely introduced the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) at the Eiffel Tower, marking an important step towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of globalizing UPI.

 

The UPI was established by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) in 2016 and unites multiple bank accounts into a single mobile app, streamlining various banking functions, excellent fund routing, and merchant payments.

NPCI International Payments (NIPL)

NPCI International Payments (NIPL), a subordinate of NPCI, associated with French e-commerce and proximity payments provider Lyra to confirm the acceptance of the UPI payment mechanism in France, starting with the Eiffel Tower.

Cross-border Payments

The Eiffel Tower becomes the explorer in offering UPI payments in France, with plans to extend this service to other merchants in the tourism and retail sectors across France and Europe, NPCI said in a statement.

 

To authorize quick and accessible cross-border payments between the two nations, India and Singapore introduced a link between UPI and PayNow in February last year. Mobile numbers can now be used to send money from India to Singapore and from Singapore to India through virtual payment addresses.
