India is the primary country contributing to foreign nationals migrating to Canada, as per the 2021 census of Canada.
India had the top position as the prime place of birth for newcomers to Canada. Around 18.6% of new migrants to Canada in the period 2016 to 2021 were born in India. The data published in the report titled ‘Portrait of Immigration to Canada’ by Statistics Canada demonstrates that 1 in 5 immigrants in Canada is from India.

In 2021, over 8.3 million people, or close to 23 percent of the population were either people who were issued Canada PR or permanent residency or new immigrants. It has been the highest number of immigrants in the population of Canada since the country was formed in 1867.

Most of the immigrants residing in Canada were welcomed through the economic programs.
