Most businesses were shut down due to COVID-19, immigration decreased by 45.9% and the number of sponsorships also came down under PGP. Post-pandemic, Canada has increased its immigration targets based on the Immigration levels plan 2022-24.

By the end of August months, the country has already permitted a total of 309,240 new PRs which means an average of 38,655 per month, and is expecting a total of 463,860 new PRs by end of 2022. Steps of the PGP program process

IRCC operates a lottery system for the PGP program with the country’s citizens and PRs to submit an ‘Interest to Sponsor form’ before being in the pool. IRCC performs draws randomly from the pool and provides ITAs (Invitations to Apply).
