New Brunswick in Canada

New Brunswick province in Canada has built a new 8-acre subdivision for housing overseas workers and their family members. This unique initiative has been taken by the Village of Chipman and J.D. Irving Company. It is due to the scarcity of skilled workers in the province. The step aims to assist the highly demanded overseas workers and their families to settle in New Brunswick.

Affordable housing is in short supply in the Village of Chipman that has around 1000 people.

The overseas workers from Finland, Latvia, Ukraine, and Brazil have so far been hired via the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program. This is for working at logging operation in and surrounding Chipman run by JDI.

Chipman is a rural area situated 75 kilometres east of Fredericton, the capital of New Brunswick.

Overseas workers hired via the AIP are fast-tracked for Canada PR Visa including their family members. Companies in New Brunswick designated under AIP have recruited around 1,500 overseas workers. This is after the launch of AIP in 2017, as quoted by the CIC News.

The workers hired by JDI in Chipman are working in logging operations and driving logging trucks. They are alternatively employed at the Grand Lake Timber Mill.

The Deputy Mayor of Chipman Keith West said that the workers are not employed in minimum paying jobs. These are good paying jobs that offer $60/70/80,000 annually, he added.

18 immigrant workers have arrived at Chipman so far through the AIP. So far 2 families have taken up houses in the new subdivision. It will have 25 mini houses in the beginning and 2 expansions are planned.

A JDI Spokesman said that additional 18 overseas workers along with their families are expected in 2019 at Chipman. He added that around 400 immigrant workers are likely to be recruited for jobs across the New Brunswick firm.
