New Immigration Reform Bills Turned Into Law

Governor Jerry has turned into law what President Obama is still mulling on. Immigrant activists and supporters all over Calif. are applauding Gov.Jerry Brown for clearing three immigration reform bills. These Bills pertain to:

  1. Immigrant Drivers’ Licenses
  2. Education and workforce
  3. Deportations
  4. Additional education legislation

Immigrant Drivers’ Licenses

Following the passage of AB60, access to driver’s licenses for immigrants ensured that 1.5 million applicants are successful in getting them beginning Jan1st, 2015. In addition the state dept was allocated a budget of $67 million to hire staff and open additional Motor Vehicles offices. Different provisions under the law strengthened people against discrimination and receive protection as other license holders do.

Education And Workforce

With the passing of this law, California ensures that 10 million immigrants including 1.85 million undocumented workers and among them the youth can pursue higher education including access to state sponsored tuition and financial aid. This would increase lot of opportunities and protections for immigrant students and workers.

Deportations

California brought into effect the TRUST Act to limit local law enforcement and federal immigration departments and put a stop to thousands of deportations. With this millions of illegal immigrants would have access to education, social services, health care and justice.

Additional Education Legislation

Undocumented students attending University of California or California State University will have access to college loans through their universities. The legislation that brought about, ‘State Dream Loan Program’ is likely to provide $9.2 million to state universities to administer loans to these undocumented students.
