Michel Barnier has received the unanimous mandate from the ministers of the EU to begin the Brexit negotiations which he aims to commence from June 19, 2017. Barnier said that the mandate from 27 member nations of the EU further expressed the confidence and determination to pursue what appear to be tough negotiations with the UK.
The former Minister of France and erstwhile European commissioner also cautioned UK’s David Davis to not to further threaten to walk out from the negotiations, as quoted by Indian Express. Addressing a press conference, he said that the EU is ready with a clear mandate for Brexit talks with the UK after all the ministers of the EU officially authorized the tough mandate for talks.
The final terms of the Brexit negotiations would be immediately sent to London after the June 8 snap general elections are over.
The mandate received by Barnier that is authorized by the 27 Ministers of the EU is a stringent version of the strategy that was approved by the leaders of the EU in just four minutes. The most contentious part of the talks is the 100 billion Euros exit bill which the UK will be demanded to pay for its divorce from the EU.
Prior to commencing the future trade deal between the EU and the UK, EU leaders are keen to have considerable progress on three vital issues for separation. These include the exit bill, rights of EU citizens in the UK and that of UK citizens in the EU and border arrangement between UK’s Northern Ireland province and Ireland.
