After a break of two years, a degree from the American University is once again gaining its popularity. The visas that are being issued to Indian students have in fact increased by a fifty percent from the last year. The trend that has been followed for the last two years can now be bucked up on. The United States currently has a total of over a 100,270 students.

The number of student visas that have been issued from October 2012 to the last month in the country is 5,600, as has been found by the U.S Consulate services. This marks an increase of fifty percent from the last year.

After having the International students in the U.S. documented, the Open Door Report of 2012 had come to the conclusion that the number of Indians studying in the U.S. in the years 2011-02 has dropped by 3.5 percent while compared to the previous year. This marks the second consecutive year of its decline. In fact, a leading number of International students in the U.S are originally from India from the years 2001-02 to 2008-09, after which it was overtaken by China.

Today, the number of Indian students studying in the U.S. makes up 13 percent of the total number of foreign students in the U.S.

"We are seeing really big growth in student visa issuance so far....For us it is a huge jump....really positive. We think this is in response to all the outreach we have been doing.", said Josh Glazeroff, the U.S. Embassy Consul General, as reported by the indiatimes.com.

In fact, it is not just schools from metro cities but even those from tier 2 cities that are being targeted by the US India Educational Foundation (USEIF) in conjunction with consular services in recent months. The last few months have seen outreach programs held in states like Guwahati, Orissa, Himachal Pradesh and Bihar. Also 5, 00,000 visas have been issued for business travelers and tourists by the visa section in the last year.
