Chefs can get employment in different places like hospitals, hotels, restaurants, clubs, and other similar establishments. Chefs are also required in ships.

  • Head Chefs have the responsibility of food preparation and monitor the cooking activities.

Eligibility criteria for Chefs

The employment requirements for Chefs are as follows:

  • Complete the education to at least secondary school.
  • Cook’s trade certification is required which is available in all the provinces and territories. Candidates can also go for equivalent training credentials, and experience.
  • Management training and experience is required for Executive Chefs.
  • Several years of experience in commercial food preparation is required for Sous-Chefs, Specialist Chefs, and Chefs.
  • Chef de cuisine certification is available for qualified Chefs and it can be attained through the Canadian Culinary Institute of the Canadian Federation of Chefs and Cooks (CFCC).
