Updated January 12 2024

Canada’s Express Entry has a standard processing time of within six months, from the date of submitting a complete application for permanent residence.

On February 2, 2022, another 1,070 Canada immigration hopefuls received invitations to apply for Canadian permanent residence through the federal Express Entry system.

Those invited were – (1) provincial nominees under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) of Canada, and (2) eligible for one of the three Express Entry programs.

This is the third Express Entry draw to be held in 2022. The previous draw was held on January 19, 2022.

An Overview
Draw No. Express Entry Draw #215
Date and Time of Round February 2, 2022 at 14:16:27 UTC
Number of invitations issued 1,070
Candidate invited from Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)
Minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score cut-off CRS 674 (PNP nomination = 600 CRS points)
Tie-breaking rule applied February 18 2021 at 05:05:15 UTC

The tie-breaking rule is applied only in situations wherein more than one candidate has the lowest score, also referred to as the CRS score of an Express Entry candidate.

If more than one candidate has the minimum CRS, the order of precedence will be as per the date and time that they created their profile. Profiles created earlier get priority over those entered into the pool at a later date.

A PNP nomination in itself is worth CRS 600 points, thereby ensuring an invitation to apply (ITA).  As on January 31, 2022, there were 197,660 profiles in the Express Entry pool.  Of these, only 983 were in the CRS 601 to 1,200 range.

While you can create your Express Entry profile if you score a minimum of 67 points on the Canada Skilled Immigration Points Calculator, you can’t submit your application for permanent residence through Express Entry unless specifically invited.

Express Entry comes under Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

Launched in January 2015, Express Entry is an online application management system. Applications for three of Canada's main economic immigration programs are accepted, managed, and processed through Express Entry.

Some PNP streams are also linked with Express Entry.

What is Canadian PNP?

Commonly referred to as Canadian PNP, the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) is designed to enable the provinces and territories in Canada to support the immigration of individuals that have expressed an interest in settling within the province/territory. Under the PNP of Canada, individuals with the most potential of contributing to the prosperity and economic development – of Canada in general, and the nominating province/territory in particular – are selected. The PNP processes applications for permanent residence submitted by applicants that have been selected by a province/territory in Canada other than Quebec province or Nunavut territory. Quebec is not a part of Canadian PNP. Provinces and territories in Canada that operate a PNP might nominate individuals through either – ·       Express Entry electronic application process for ‘enhanced’ nominations, or ·       Non-Express Entry application process for ‘base’ nominations.

Canadian PNPs -      Alberta : Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) -      British Columbia : British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) -      Manitoba : Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) -      Ontario : Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) -      Nova Scotia : Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP) -      New Brunswick : New Brunswick Provincial Nominee Program (NBPNP) -      Newfoundland and Labrador : Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP) -      Prince Edward Island : Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) -      Northwest Territories : Northwest Territories Provincial Nominee Program -      Saskatchewan : Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) -      Yukon : Yukon Nominee Program (YNP)

As per Canada Annual Immigration Targets 2021-2023, a total of 411,000 are to get their permanent residence in Canada in 2022.

Express Entry admissions target for 2022 is 110,500 newcomers. 81,500 will get Canada PR visa through PNP in 2022.
