Mining Engineer and its NOC code (TEER code)

Mining Engineers' job role is to plan, design, organize and manage the mines development, facilities of mines, systems, and equipment. Preparation and supervision of the extraction of metallic or non-metallic minerals and ores from under the surface for mines. Mining engineers are hired by mining companies, manufacturers, by Government, consulting engineering companies, and educational & research institutions. Canada has upgraded its NOC (National Occupational Classification) codes into different TEER categories. The new NOC 5-digit category for Mining Engineers is 21330. Previously it was 2143.

Roles and responsibilities of Mining engineer

  • Need to conduct preliminary surveys and prepare study notes of coal deposits, minerals, or ores to evaluate the economic and environmental viability of potential mining operations.
  • Need to check the suitable means of safe and efficient mining deposits.
  • Provide required information and provide advisory on appropriate blasting and drilling methods for mining, construction, or destruction procedures too.
  • Must design and provide shafts, haulage systems, supporting systems, mine services, and ventilation systems.
  • Design, improve and implement computer-related applications like mine designing, mine modeling, and mapping or surveying mine conditions.
  • Prepare the project estimations and the operations, along with schedules and reports.
  • Prepare a plan, design, or chose and select mining equipment, machinery, mineral treatment machinery, and tools and equipment in collaboration with the other engineering specialists.
  • Execute, organize and manage the mine development, and mine structures. Also mine operation and mine maintenance.
  • Implementation and coordination between mine safety programs.
  • The candidate needs to take care of the supervision and coordination of the work done by technicians, survey personnel, technologists, scientists, and other engineers.

Eligibility Criteria for Mining Engineers

  • Candidate need to have a graduate degree in Mining engineering or even a related engineering discipline can also apply.
  • A Master’s degree or a Doctorate in related engineering also can apply
  • Candidate must possess a License from a provincial or territorial association of professional engineers for the approval of engineering drawing and reports to practice as a P.Eng. (Professional Engineer).
  • The graduate engineers who have graduated from an accredited educational program are considered eligible for the registration and also need to have 3-4 years of supervised job experience in engineering and a professional practice examination.
