The Swiss Immigration rules have always restricted non-EU Immigrants from entering the country. However, recent changes have improved the situation. Overseas Immigrants graduating from a Swiss University can avail of Work Opportunities. The new Immigration Rules allow them to stay in the country for up to 6 months to look for jobs. The job must be in demand though.
Overseas Immigrants can work up to 15 hours per week till they find a full-time job. They have to prove that they have enough funds to cover their living costs. The Immigration law ensures that these new changes do not affect the EU nationals in any way.
Getting a job in Switzerland:
Every year Switzerland issues nearly 200 Work Permits to Overseas Immigrants. Last year they have sent most of the invites for IT and Pharmaceutical jobs. However, getting such work permits is quite difficult. A job offer is a must in this case.
Also, employers must prove that they could not find a suitable candidate in Switzerland. They must also provide evidence as to why the Swiss candidates who applied were not fit for the job. Overseas Immigrants with high qualification and skills can land a job. It means managers and specialists have a chance to get the Swiss Work Permit.
Knowing one of the official languages is also very important. Overseas Immigrants with German, Italian or French language proficiency are prioritized. As quoted by swissinfo.ch, 72 percent of the employers expressed their interest to hire Overseas Immigrants. Nearly 90 percent believe that talented Overseas Immigrants can improve their companies’ performance.
The selection process depends on the lottery system. Hence, the Swiss Immigration Department advises Overseas Immigrants to start their preparation early.
Starting annual salaries:
Overseas Immigrants with a bachelor’s degree should earn 40 percent more than someone with a secondary certificate. Candidates with master’s degree get even more. From 2016 to 2017, the starting salary was nearly £21,000 for a graduate.
Courses on Medicine, Engineering and Dentistry are given priority in Switzerland. The starting salary ranges from £31,350 to £28,280. However, economic and business courses are believed to create the highest earners in the country.
Switzerland Government said earning a higher salary depends on the candidate’s competitiveness. Those who are highly skilled in in-demand skills will be offered a good annual salary.
