The Provincial Nominee Program [PNP] is an integral part of Canada immigration. Offering around 80 different immigration pathways or ‘streams’, the PNP continues to be a much sought-after route to permanent residence in Canada.
Each of the immigration pathways specifically targets a specific class of immigrants – students, skilled workers, semi-skilled workers, or business people.
As per Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada [IRCC], the PNP is for workers that have –
· The education, work experience and skills required for being able to contribute to the economy of a particular province or territory, |
· The intention of living within that province or territory, and |
· An intention of taking up Canada PR. |
Over 4 lakh immigrants a year are to be welcomed by the Canadian government in the near future [as per the 2021-2023 Immigration Levels Plan].
In 2021, as many as 80,800 will find their way into Canada through the PNP route.
PNP admissions as per 2021-2023 Immigration Levels Plan | |
Year | Projected Admissions – Targets |
2021 | 80,800 |
2022 | 81,500 |
2023 | 83,000 |
The PNP application process will depend upon the stream applying for. Generally, while there is a paper-based process for various PNP streams, there is an online process for applying for the Express-Entry linked PNP streams.
An Express Entry candidate that is able to secure a PNP nomination is allotted 600 additional points towards their Comprehensive Ranking System [CRS] score. It is the highest-ranking Express Entry profiles that are issued invitations to apply for Canadian permanent residence.
With a profile boosted through the 600 CRS points of a PNP nomination, the Express Entry candidate is sure to receive an ITA in the next federal Express Entry draw that is held. The minimum CRS cut-off in the latest Express Entry draw [#170] was CRS 468.
