Manitoba ends 2020 with 5,000+ LAAs

In its last provincial draw of the year, Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program [MPNP] has invited 188 Canadian immigration candidates to apply for a provincial nomination for permanent residence in Canada through the MPNP.

Manitoba, one of the 9 provinces that are a part of the Provincial Nominee Program [PNP] of Canada, held its Expression of Interest [EOI] Draw #105 on December 30, 2020. Invitations in the latest MPNP draw were issued to skilled workers, both within the province as well as abroad, and international students.

MPNP streams

[A] Skilled Worker Stream Foreign workers with skills in demand in the local labour market selected and nominated for Canada PR. While for the Skilled Worker in Manitoba pathway “an ongoing employment” is required, the Skilled Workers Overseas immigration pathway has a criterion of an established connection to Manitoba.

[B] International Education Stream [IES] For international students that have graduated in Manitoba, provided they meet the local labour market requirements.

[C] Business Investor Stream For qualified business investors and entrepreneurs from across the world that have the intention and ability of starting/purchasing a business in Manitoba.

Registration of an Expression of Interest [EOI] profile with the MPNP is the first step for a skilled worker that intends taking the MPNP Skilled Worker Stream route to Canada PR.

An EOI score, out of a maximum 1,000 points, is allotted to a candidate based on factors such as their work experience, connection to Manitoba etc.

The EOI score is the determining factor as to which of the profiles receive an invitation in the MPNP draws that are held.

Note. – Of the total 188 Letters of Advice to Apply [LAAs] issued, 13 went to candidates that had “declared a valid Express Entry ID and job seeker validation code”.

Express Entry candidates that are able to secure a PNP nomination are allotted an additional 600 CRS points, thereby ensuring that they will be invited to apply for Canadian permanent residence in the subsequent Express Entry draw that is held.

By ‘CRS’ here is implied the ranking system – Comprehensive Ranking System – that comes into play when the profiles of Canadian immigration candidates are in the Express Entry pool. It is the highest-ranked profiles based on their CRS scores that are issued invitations to apply for permanent residence in Canada.

With this, the MPNP has issued a total of 5,076 LAAs in 2020. As per the MPNP, “Manitoba received 5,000 Base nomination spaces and 875 Express Entry spaces for 2020.”
