British Columbia invites 383 to apply

Canada’s British Columbia province has held another round of invitations under the Provincial Nominee Program [PNP].

On July 20, 2021, British Columbia PNP – also referred to as the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program [BC PNP] – invited a total of 383 Canada immigration hopefuls to apply for being nominated by BC PNP for Canada PR.

The BC PNP held 2 draws in the same day, on July 20, 2021.

Invitations to apply [ITAs] issued in the latest BC PNP round of invitations went out to candidates eligible for the BC PNP categories of – Skills Immigration [SI], or Express Entry BC [EEBC].

Both the BC PNP categories target skilled workers. The EEBC is linked with the federal Express Entry system. The SI, on the other hand, runs independently.

Extended permanently and renamed accordingly, BC PNP Tech also invites candidates eligible for the SI or EEBC categories, provided they have job offers in any of the 29 key tech occupations.

How does a PNP nomination guarantee an invitation to apply for Canada PR?
An invitation to apply for Canadian permanent residence through the federal Express Entry system is guaranteed for an individual that is able to secure a PNP nomination under any of the Express Entry-linked-PNP streams. A PNP nomination is worth 600 CRS points in itself. Here, by ‘CRS’ is implied the Comprehensive Ranking System used for ranking federal Express Entry profiles against one another. It is the highest-ranked profiles in the Express Entry pool that get invited – by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada [IRCC] – to apply for Canada PR. Not all are invited. Do keep in mind that if intending to take the provincial route to Canadian permanent residence you must have the clear intention of settling within the province/territory nominating you after you are granted your permanent residence in Canada.

Canadian PNP is specifically designed for enabling the provinces and territories in Canada – except Quebec and Nunavut – to support the integration of newcomers that:

[1] have expressed an interest in settling in their territory or province, and

[2] the nominating province or territory finds such newcomers to have the potential of contributing to the economic development of that province/territory in specific and that of Canada in general.

Entrepreneur Immigration – Base Category: New registrations temporarily paused
As per a News Update on July 19, 2021, the BC PNP is “temporarily pausing” the intake of new registrations under the BC PNP’s Entrepreneur Immigration [EI] – Base category. With the temporary pause, and in the background of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the BC economy, the BC PNP intends to review the EI – Base category. The BC PNP review is for ensuring that the EI – Base category “continues to meet its objectives to support government priorities and economic recovery, and prepare prospective applicants for the greatest chance of success”. An update will be posted by the BC PNP in early-2022 regarding the resumption of registrations under the stream. Entrepreneur Immigration – Regional Pilot as well as Strategic Pilots categories meanwhile remain open.

Around 6,000 BC PNP invitations have been issued in 2021 so far.

The province of British Columbia in Canada is expected to have 861,000 job openings between 2019 and 2029.
