The Australian skills assessment is an evaluation process that compares an international applicant's academic qualifications and professional experience to that of Australian standards. The skills are assessed for specific occupations in Australia. This assessment is required to apply for skilled migration visas.
The skill assessment list selects an occupation specified in the Australian Occupational Demand List. The list mentions occupations experiencing skill shortages in Australia. Each occupation has its own skill-assessing authority. The ACS, or Australian Computer Society, assesses occupations in the IT and computer sectors. Trade occupations are assessed by the VETASSESS, Vocational Educational and Training Assessment Services, and TRA, or Trade Recognition Australia.
A candidate must obtain a positive skill assessment to apply for an Australian work visa. For the skill assessment, the applicant must fulfil the eligibility criteria.
