With the return of the Post-Study Work Visa, more Indian students are opting for the UK for their higher studies. There was an increase of 63% in the number of UK Student Visas for Indian students by September end of this year.

As per the UK’s Office for National Statistics, around 30,550 Indian students have received their Tier 4 Student Visa in 2019. In 2018, the number was just 18,370.

The British High Commission in India also revealed that more than 5.12 lakh Indians have been granted the UK Tourist Visa this year. This is a 9% increase as compared to 2018.

Sir Dominic Asquith, the UK High Commissioner to India, said that this is the third time in a row that the numbers have increased. He also said that more Indian students are now choosing to study at the world-class educational institutions of the UK.

Statistics from the ONS also revealed that in the past ten years, almost 270,000 Indian students had chosen the UK for their higher studies. The UK houses three of the world’s top 10 Universities in the world.

Barbara Wickham, Director India for  British Council, said that there had been an upward growth in Student Visa numbers. Also, there has been greater collaboration between the education sectors of India and the UK. Education has been playing a vital role in the relationship between both countries.

Estimate says that 1 in 5 of all UK Student Visas is granted to Indians. 90% of all Indian visa applications are successful, which is significantly above the global average.

Indians are also the top recipients of the Tier 2 Skilled Worker Visa. Indians received 56,241 Tier 2 Visas in 2019, increasing from 55,136 in 2018. Indians account for almost 51% of all Tier 2 Skilled Worker Visa.

There has been a significant increase in the number of recipients from other countries in the past three years. The Phillippines has received 1,998 more Tier 2 Visas in 2019, which is an increase of 57% as compared to last year. Nigeria received 1,446 more Tier 2 Visas which is an increase of 71% from last year. India was up by 2% with an increase of 1,105 Visas and Egypt by 76% with an increase of 1,062 Visas.
