United Kingdom has announced scholarships for Indian finance professionals. This is one of its kind scholarship program from the UK government to attract Indian students to Britain.
The Economic Times reported, UK's Treasury Department saying, "It will be the first of its kind and help strengthen future financial ties between the two countries, while further cementing Britain's position as the centre for global finance."
Indian Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley, during his UK trip met UK Chancellor George Osborne. They discussed various issues at length including Indian students in UK, Insurance Bill and other financial reforms required towards better India-UK ties.
In the past few years, UK has witnessed a sharp decrease in number of Indian students. The statistics show consistent decline since 2011 and the reasons for it is not very surprising. The rule to send back international students soon after education has kept Indian students at bay from choosing UK as their preferred destination.
The UK is inviting Indian students and financial professionals to come and study there by offering scholarships and much more. However, it remains to be seen, in the coming years, if scholarships will successfully attract Indians or UK has to offer something more than that.
