OINP to align with the new NOC 2021 system

New NOC system to be rolled on November 16, 2022

Canada is updating its National Occupation Classification and Ontario Immigration Nominee Program will be aligned to this new system to give categories to the jobs. Ontario’s Ministry Of Labour, Immigration, Training And Skills Development made an announcement that changes will be made to the Ontario Immigration Act in which OINP eligibility requirements will be defined.

Date of launching new NOC system

The new NOC system will be rolled out on November 16, 2022 by IRCC. The federal government has started providing guidance to the applicants under Express Entry since August 2022. IRCC has informed in August that candidates applying under the Express Entry system to make a note about the changes in the NOC as their applications may be affected.

Things to be done by the applicants who have not received invitation to apply

Candidates who have already submitted their applications under Express Entry but have not received invitations to apply have to do the following:

  • They have to make a search for their job in their NOC 2021 list on the ESDC website.
  • They have to update their profile under the five-digit occupational code under the TEER category

Candidates who will update their profiles accordingly on or after November 16, 2022 will be eligible for all the programs of the Express Entry which include

Candidates who received ITAs have to apply for permanent residence according to the NOC 2016.

Changes made in the new NOC

The NOC codes will become five-digit numbers rather than four-digit ones. The Canadian government will break down the skills level for each occupation until mid-November. The occupational groups will be ranked on the basis of five hierarchical levels which include:

  • Broad occupation category
  • Major groups
  • Sub-major groups
  • Minor groups
  • Unit groups
