Canada Breaks Record for Largest PNP-Focused Express Entry Draw

The federal government of Canada has held another round of invitations under the Express Entry System managed through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada [IRCC].

On June 23, 2021, with 1,002 invited, Canada broke the record for the largest PNP-focused Express Entry draw. Candidates invited were those with a provincial nomination under the Provincial Nominee Program [PNP] of Canada.

Those invited can now proceed to applying to IRCC for permanent residence in Canada. Applying for Canada PR through the Express Entry system is by invitation only.

The previous federal draw was held on June 10, 2021.

An Overview of Express Entry Draw #193
Date and Time of round June 23, 2021 at 15:41:38 UTC
Number of invitations issued 1,002
Candidate invited from Provincial Nominee Program [PNP]
Minimum Comprehensive Ranking System [CRS] score cut-off CRS 742
Tie-breaking rule applied February 18, 2021 at 04:04:56 UTC
Invitations issued by date [June 23] 43,443 [in 2020] | 82,715 [in 2021]

IRCC continues with the trend of alternating between candidates with a provincial nomination and those with previous Canadian experience [making them eligible for the Candian Experience Class]. No all-program Express Entry draws have been held so far in 2021.

In view of the COVID-19 pandemic, since March 2020, IRCC has been focusing on candidates that had a higher likelihood of already being within Canada as against overseas applicants.

It is the highest-ranked – as per the maximum of 1,200-points score on the Comprehensive Ranking System [CRS] – that are invited by IRCC to apply.

A PNP nomination in itself, through any of the Express Entry linked PNP streams, is worth 600 CRS points. Canadian PNP has almost 80 different ‘streams’ or immigration pathways available, many aligned with the federal Express Entry system.

Generally, IRCC applies a tie-breaking rule to profiles that have the minimum CRS requirement. This is done to establish as to who is to be invited if there are more than 1 profiles with the minimum CRS required.

Express Entry candidates with a provincial nomination and a CRS score of 742 and above received invitations to apply in Express Entry Draw #193, provided they had created their profile before the date and time specified in the tie-break applied.

With the latest Express Entry draw, a total of 82,715 Invitations to Apply [ITAs] have been issued by IRCC in 2021 in the 23 draws held so far. The Express Entry induction target for 2021 is that of 108,500.
