The province of British Columbia in Canada has held its latest Tech Pilot draw through the BC Provincial Nominee Program [BC PNP]. 67 Invitations to Apply [ITAs] were issued in the BC PNP Tech Pilot draw on September 8, 2020.

While the last BC PNP draw was held on September 1, 2020

A fast-track Canadian immigration pathway, the Tech Pilot of British Columbia is specifically designed to target international students as well as foreign tech workers in any of the 29 key tech occupations in demand in the province.

The 67 Express Entry and Skills Immigration candidates that have received invitations can now apply for a provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residence through the BC PNP.

All candidates that are invited through the BC PNP Tech Pilot are required to have a “valid job offer under one of the 29 eligible occupations”. The job offer must be for at least 1 year [365 days], of which at least 120 days should be remaining at the time of application to the BC PNP.

Express Entry candidates that are able to secure a provincial nomination get 600 additional points towards their Comprehensive Ranking System [CRS] score, thereby boosting their profile to the top of the Express Entry pool. With this, such candidates are guaranteed to receive an ITA in the subsequent federal Express Entry draw that is held.

Skills Immigration candidates that are able to secure a provincial nomination, on the other hand, will move on to having their Canada PR applications processed directly by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada [IRCC].

Registration under the BC PNP’s Skills Immigration Registration System [SIRS] will be required by immigration candidates applying for either the Express Entry BC or Skills Immigration categories. EEBC candidates will also be required to create their Express Entry profile.

On registration with the SIRS, the profiles are assessed and allotted a score based on a range of factors such as education, English proficiency, work experience, and location of employment in BC.

The minimum score required in the present Tech Pilot draw was 80 across all the 4 categories that were issued invitations to apply for provincial nomination.

Encouraged by the positive response to the Pilot, the BC PNP Tech Pilot has been extended till June 2021.

Weekly invitations are issued by the BC PNP under the Tech Pilot draw. As per the BC PNP, “Processing times for 80% of BC PNP applications is 2-3 months from receipt. Tech Pilot applications are typically processed in shorter timeframes.”
