Around 40,000 immigrants welcomed by Canada in July 2021

The federal government of Canada has revealed that around 39,500 new immigrants were welcomed in July 2021, even more than the 35,700 newcomers admitted in June. https://youtu.be/rDXRKn7FSVc As per official statistics, more than 184,000 have been welcomed by Canada this year by July-2021. With 108,935 Express Entry invitations to apply [ITAs] issued by September 15, 2021, the federal government of Canada has surpassed its annual immigration target, through Express Entry, of 108,500 for the year. Launched in 2015, the Express Entry system of Canada comes under the purview of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada [IRCC]. By the same time in 2020, on the other hand, around 69,950 ITAs had been issued by IRCC.

Canada is well on track to meeting the target of welcoming 401,000 new Canadian permanent residents in 2021, a majority of which are to acquire Canada PR through economic immigration that includes IRCC Express Entry. Canada has a significant reliance on immigration for addressing the gap in the Canadian labour market. As per official reports, the Canadian government will continue to accelerate the pace of landing new permanent residents in the country.

Previously, the last time in history that Canada welcomed 400,000+ in 1 year was in the early 1900s. Currently, the record stands at 401,000 immigrants welcomed in 1913.

  As per the Immigration Levels Plan 2021-2023, Canada will be welcoming over 4 lakh immigrants a year. For 2021, the target stands at 401,000. Another 411,000 are to be welcomed in 2022. The target for 2023 stands at 421,000. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the annual immigration target had been put down at 351,000 for 2021. Due to international travel restrictions as well as service limitations and disruptions globally, the target could not be met and was accordingly re-adjusted in the next Plan announced. The levels of newcomers welcomed in June-July 2021 are comparatively higher and among the highest monthly totals in the history of Canada. Canada is indeed catching-up in an attempt at achieving the target for the year. To achieve the annual target, IRCC will be required to land an additional 217,000 newcomers in Canada during the remaining year. An average of 43,400 per month will have to be welcomed in the remaining 5 months of 2021. Before the pandemic, Canada averaged welcoming 25,000 to 35,000 new immigrants a year. While securing 43,400 monthly might be a challenge, it can nonetheless be done. Several contributing factors will come together for IRCC to either achieve the goal, or come as close as possible to it by 2021-end. Many with their Confirmation of Permanent Residence [COPR] will now be able to land in Canada following the easing of travel restrictions. Anyone newly approved by IRCC for permanent residence in Canada can also now move to Canada.
