The Report on the Quality of Life in European Cities reveals that Cardiff in the United Kingdom is considered the best place for newcomers in European countries. Cardiff is given a score of 95% by the European Commission. 95% of residents stated that the British city is a good place to live for immigrants, older people, LGBTIQ people, and families with children.

 

Lisbon in Portugal secures the second position from the European Commission with a score of 90%. Cardiff (UK), Braga (PT), and Lisbon (PT) are considered the three best cities for foreign nationals to live in in 2023. Three out of four residents said that their city was a good place for immigrants. Since capital cities often have housing issues and are more crowded, Non-capital cities are considered better places to live.

The Report on the Quality of Life in European Cities 2023

 

Those born in foreign nations are more bound by the standards of local-level policies because they probably face unemployment and live in overly populated places. Braga in Portugal is considered the 3rd country that is best for this group and scored 89%, followed by Groningen in the Netherlands with 88%.

 

Cities like Portugal and Spain were also appreciated, as 84% of residents considered these cities the best places to live. Gdansk in Poland is ranked fifth, Barcelona in Spain is ranked sixth, Tyneside conurbation in the United Kingdom is ranked seventh, and Hamburg in Germany is ranked eighth, with a score of 87% each.

Croatia had higher rates for some of its cities, such as Zagreb, compared to the national levels, with 66% of respondents stating that the Croatian capital is the best place to live for immigrants. In comparison, the national level is 42%.
