How to create a Canada Express Entry Profile?

Canada's Express Entry is an online application management system. Express Entry offers a pathway to Canadian permanent residence to skilled workers that might be in Canada or overseas.

The federal Express Entry system has a standard processing time of within six months, from the date of submitting a complete application.

Applications for three of the main economic immigration programs of Canada are managed through Express Entry. These are – the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

While the FSWP is specifically for skilled workers, the FSTP is for those seeking Canada PR visa through Express Entry on the basis of their being skilled in a trade. The CEC, on the other hand, is for those with previous, and recent, Canadian work experience.

Provinces and territories in Canada – with the exception of Quebec and Nunavut – can also recruit candidates from the Express Entry pool through the Canadian Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).

Am I eligible for Express Entry?

67 points will be needed to be able to apply for Canadian permanent residence through the federal Express Entry system.

The first step of the process is that of going to the official website of the department of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) of the government of Canada.

STEP 1: Sign-in or create an IRCC account.

If creating an account with IRCC for the first time, you will have to sign-up for a GC Key. Once your GC Key sign-up is complete, you can proceed further.

On being asked for the Personal Reference Code, you will have to click on Express Entry so that your eligibility for the same can be determined.

STEP 2: Checking eligibility

Here, you will be asked as to which province or territory in Canada do you plan to live in. You can select ‘all’ if there is no specific preference as such.

Language test results

Language test results – that is, the IELTS or CELPIP for the English language – will have to be entered at this point.

Do keep in mind that you must have your language tests with you well before the creation of your Express Entry profile.

The date that you appeared for the test will also have to be entered.

Results of each of the four abilities assessed – Speaking, Reading, Listening, and Writing – will have to be provided. This has to be the exact score. The score cannot be an estimation or a conjecture.

Other language test results, if any, will also have to be given.

Work experience

Now, you will have to enter information regarding the skilled work experience that you possess. You will be asked the years of skilled work experience, in the previous three years, that you have in Canada.

After this, you will be asked about the skilled work experience that you have in the last 10 years. For this, the work experience should be “continuous, paid, full-time (or an equal amount in part-time) and in only 1 occupation”.

The 4-digit unique occupation code for your profession, as per the National Occupational Classification (NOC) matrix, will be required. Each of the jobs available in the Canadian labour market has a code, referred to as the NOC code of that profession.

Whether or not you have a certificate of qualification from any Canadian province will also have to specified.

Proof of funds

Here, you will have to enter the total amount in Canadian dollars that you intend bringing to Canada with you. The proof of funds requirement will be as per the number of family members.

Job Offer

To mention if you have a valid job offer from a Canadian employer.

ECA Report

Details of Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) Report to be entered, in case of an overseas education.

The ECA Report must be for immigration purpose. The ECA must also have been done by any of the IRCC-approved agencies – such as the World Education Services (WES) – within the last five years.

Connection to Canada, if any

Here, you will have to check all that apply:

• Studied in Canada full time for two years or more
• Two years’ work experience in Canada
• Relative in Canada
• None of the above

Marital status

Here, details of spouse will be asked for, such as – IELTS score of spouse etc.

Results: After you have entered all the information and if found to be eligible for Express Entry, you will get your results.

If eligible, you will be intimated “Based on your results, you appear to be eligible for Express Entry”.

Creating an Express Entry profile

Now comes the profile creation part.

Here, you will be asked for the following details –

• Name, as on passport or national identity document
• Last name
• First name
• Gender
• Date of birth
• Marital status

IRCC will require you to complete your Canada Express Entry online application by filling up each of the six sections given for Express Entry profile creation. You must click “Start Form” to proceed.

Do keep in mind that providing incorrect information while creating a Canada Express Entry profile or at the time of visa application submission will lead to rejection.
