Canada immigration with spouse

Canada offers various immigration pathways for family members to join their loved ones in Canada. The country provides family sponsorship programs to help families reunite in the Maple Leaf country. You can sponsor your spouse or common law partner to Canada with the spousal sponsorship program. The sponsored spouse can apply for a Canada spouse visa to migrate and work in Canada.

Canada Spousal Sponsorship Program

The Spousal sponsorship program is one of the easiest ways for Canada immigration with spouse. You can sponsor your spouse, conjugal partner, or de facto partner for Canadian immigration via the spousal sponsorship program.

Who is eligible to sponsor their spouse?

You would be eligible to sponsor your spouse if:

  • You are aged above 18 years
  • You are a citizen of Canada or a Canada PR holder
  • You do not have a criminal offense against your name
  • You have not been sponsored to Canada under any sponsor programs in the last 5 years.

Note:  You must provide sufficient evidence and supporting documents to prove your relationship with the person you want to sponsor.

Pathways for Canada Immigration with Spouse

You can consider the following immigration pathways to migrate to Canada with your spouse:

Express Entry System

You and your spouse can apply for Canada Permanent Residency through the Express Entry system. Your spouse can be declared a secondary applicant while you are the primary applicant. Dependents can apply through the Federal Skilled Workers Program (FSWP) or Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) under the Express Entry Program.

Each spouse has to create their Express Entry profile and mention the other as primary or secondary applicant. You can get an additional 40 points under the CRS score calculator while applying with your spouse. A high CRS score will increase your chances of getting an ITA from the IRCC.

Provincial Nominee Program

The provinces in Canada have their Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP) via which they invite skilled immigrants to Canada. You can apply for a Canada PNP with your spouse as a dependent or secondary applicant. The partner with a higher CRS score shall apply as the primary applicant to increase your chances of being selected.
